FCAB

The National Blueprint for Lithium Batteries was developed by the Federal Consortium for Advanced Batteries (FCAB) and is intended to guide investments towards developing a domestic lithium-battery manufacturing supply chain. In a holistic approach encompassing the entire lithium-ion battery ecosystem, the FCAB brings together federal agencies interested in ensuring a sustainable, domestic value chain of lithium batteries.

The vision in the National Blueprint is, by 2030, for the United States and its partners to have established a secure battery materials and technology supply chain that supports long-term U.S. economic competitiveness and equitable job creation, enables decarbonization, advances social justice, and meets national security requirements.

01.

The U.S. should implement policies and support enabling the expansion of U.S. lithium battery manufacturing, including electrodes, cell, and pack production to ultimately meet the future needs of electric grid storage production as well as security applications.

02.

Secure U.S. access to raw materials for lithium batteries by incentivizing growth in safe, equitable, and sustainable domestic mining ventures while leveraging partnerships with allies and partners to establish a diversified supply.

03.

Create incentives for the growth of domestic battery materials processing and support the development of materials processing innovations to produce low/no cobalt active materials and enable scale up.
