Safety Standards

Safety standards in battery manufacturing are crucial to protect workers and the public. Key safety standards include IEC 62133 for lithium-ion batteries, UL1642 for lithium-ion cells, and OSHA regulations for general industry and battery manufacturing.

These standards address design, production, usage, and disposal, and encompass areas like ventilation and worker training and longevity.

Employee Safety Training

Employees must be trained on safe handling procedures, hazard communication, and emergency response protocols. Risk assessments are essential to identify and mitigate potential hazards throughout the battery manufacturing process, including design, production, and transportation.

Manufacturing Safety

Battery manufacturing plants under federal jurisdiction must comply with OSHA’s general industry standards and specific regulations for battery manufacturing. Mutant-made means safety comes first, second, and third.

Battery Chemistry Safety

In batteries, LFP stands for Lithium Iron Phosphate. It’s a type of lithium-ion battery that uses lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) as the cathode material. This chemical composition offers several advantages over other chemistries, such as increased safety and longevity.

Our products comply with B31241, UL1642, UL1973 & IEC62619 safety and manufacturing standards.

"You can literally shoot our battery with a machine gun..."

The history and of the extensive publicity of auto battery fires has generated concern over the safety of Lithium Ion batteries. “There is no relationship between the battery for motor vehicles, and the batteries Mutant produces,” comments Dr. Chen. “We use LFP – the safest composition there is. You can literally shoot our battery with a machine gun – maybe you have a puff of smoke, but no fire.”

Furthermore, Mutant batteries feature a built-in sensor and monitoring system. “We can see if a battery is deviating from normal,” says Dr. Chen, “and can preemptively shut the battery off, replacing it before there is an issue.”
